Here at Raised Gold our primary focus is on quality, both
in materials and in skill.
Many beautiful examples of period illumination are still with us today
because the materials used are chemically inert. By using similar
materials today, we envisage that all products of Raised Gold will
have a similar longevity if properly cared for by their owners.
Our artist regularly uses either vellum (specially treated hide) or
a quality, acid-free paper. Paints used are W+N gouache, with Chinese
ink used for calligraphy. Gold leaf is commonly used, and occasionally
shell gold or gold gouache is used for finer highlights throughout
our miniatures.
Here are some tips for assisting the longevity of our products:
(1) the artwork should not be framed directly touching glass, as gold
can adhere to glass.
(2) keep the art out of direct sunlight to avoid fading.
(3) keep it in a cool dry place, avoiding humidity and mould.
